Internship Program
Women's Sourcebook is looking for talented interns to add to our team! Learn more about our new internship program below.
Hours: Flexible hours, Wed and Thurs. Some at-home work.
Compensation: unpaid (commission is available to interns who develop sponsorships)
Qualifications: Excellent, impeccable writing/communication skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office, social media, Internet, and reasonable familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style. Experience with Weebly or WordPress a plus. You must be an independent learner, curious, detail-oriented, highly responsive and dependable. Laptop and dependable transportation are required.
Location: 5 South First Street, Richmond (off Main Street near the public library and the Jefferson Hotel, downtown)
Here are some of the duties our interns perform. Assignments are determined by skill level.
• Assist in site upkeep and updates, including proofreading, editing, and publishing articles to the site
• Research, conduct interviews, write and fact-check feature stories, author profiles, and book reviews
• Develop working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style
• Generate ideas and content for articles and magazine and website promotion; write press releases and other promotional pieces
• Assist with e-mail list development and email marketing
• Research and pursue media outlets
• Develop social media and blogger audiences
• Develop women-owned, woman-managed, and women-friendly sponsors for Women's Sourcebook (commission compensation available)
• Enter data and proofread databases
• Type stories and documents
• Answer telephone; communicate with various sources through email
HOW TO APPLY
Write a letter that outlines your background and career goals, and that describes your interest in working as an intern for Women's Sourcebook. You should also submit a resume and 4-5-page writing sample of your best work via e-mail to Elise Patterson at womenssourcebook@gmail.com. We will be in contact with you if you are selected for an interview. The interview process may include an editing/detail test and a second written piece, which will be assigned by the editor.
